Eric Leonardson and the Experimental Instruments...

The Springboard.

The springboard is a board built with the intention of exploring the 'sonic potential' of available objects such as springs, coils, wires etc. Attached to the board is a contact mic (piezo transducer) which, when amplified, picks up the vibrations through the objects placed on the board. The board can be struck, tapped etc with bows, beaters and such like (even combs, brushes or saws). It can also be played using air fans which produces quite harmonic effects.
